New Development in Ewell

On Friday 16 March  two cars left the Abbeyfield Southern Oaks Old House. Ewell en-route for the South Thames College at Merton,  a few miles north into London. Aboard the two cars were 6 Residents from the Old House and 2 volunteers. At the College is the Taste restaurant staffed by students on the Hospitality and Catering Course and we were royally treated to lunch there. The professional kitchen and modern 80 seat restaurant opened in 2013 to allow students to practice expert cooking skills and to deliver varied seasonal menus to the public 4 days a week during term time.. Most of us went for nonalcoholic cocktails to start with, but the order for a "Bloody Mary" was delayed by the bar staff having to raid the kitchen for the missing Worcester Sauce and waiting for a lost local "Wimbledon Ale".The subsequent relaxed three course lunch served by well turned out students was artfully presented and very moderately priced at £12.50/ head. We returned all content with an unusual trip out and back to Ewell for a quiet afternoon and a small tea.
